Bronchitis

I've been feeling rundown the past few weeks. I also had the occasional sore throat. Sis, noticed the coughing, though. Last week, she reminded me that I actually have health insurance. I'd been without it for so long, that I'd forgotten I had it. I called my doctor, got an appointment for the following day, and ended up leaving after having been nebulized with albuterol, had a prednisone jab, and collecting prescriptions for prednisone and a cough syrup that the kids call lean.

Friday, I ran a huge fever. I'm just beginning to recover a bit.

I'm so happy to have health insurance. It didn't end up as pneumonia as has happened so many times in the past. With luck, by the time my prednisone is through (on Wednesday), I'll feel fully human.

COVID-19

Sis has the virus, probably caught from either a student or a colleague. When I asked her a couple of weeks ago, she said, "I don't really need a mask." She did get boosted last Friday, but, at that point, she already had it.

Mom now has it.

I don't have a fever, so it's unlikely that I have it, but I still feel poorly (sore throat, sinus). I just had my vaccination for COVID last Friday, along with Sis. I hope it's working.

And COVID? Haven't you looked at a calendar, you're 2019, not 2023.

I don't eat meat and haven't since I was sick in April of 2010 (link to my LJ on it). A few days ago I read an article on an allergy spread by ticks in South America and that the Lone Star tick, whose habitat just happens to include the District has been spreading it, too. (Couldn't find the original article; this one is from NPR a couple of years ago.)

I'm going to have my doctor check me for it at my next physical. Reading about this was fascinating, every single symptom or experience tallied with mine, and not just in the "I fell into a clickhole on WebMD" kind of way. It's also a little bit of a relief. So many people have commented that I must be faking or it's psychosomatic that I was beginning to wonder myself.

On my way to get lunch yesterday, I fell. I landed on my right side. My cane handle hit my face, fortunately it has a soft covering, and I have some mild facial bruising. I also have lots of pain on my right side, an injured wrist, mild concussion (probably, based on my eyes not tracking), and a sprained ankle. I'm in the boot on the left side for the heel spur and an air cast on my right for the ankle. My current lurch is similar to Frankenstein's monster.

[livejournal.com profile] neotoma helped me get to urgent care, stayed with me through getting the prescription for tramadol, and took me home with her so that I'd have adult supervision per the doctor's instructions. She's also made me pancakes, giggled when she checked my eye tracking, and made a drug store run to get me a stool to use in the shower as trying to get out of a bathtub and trying to stand on two bad legs are neither of them good options. Definitely a good friend to have.

In short *whine!*

Gastroenteritis is no one's friend. I had to have IV fluids last week and I am on a bland low fiber diet for another week. I haven't been online at all this week, not even to check email.

There was also bad news from Sis on Wednesday night. Scout, aka Babydog, had to be put down. She was such a sweet dog. Pneumonia and old age are not a good combination. When I am properly back online, this is being written on my kindle, I will post some pictures of her and tell the funny stories.
