DC Heat

I knew this from the start. In August, in Washington DC, it can be 99 degrees farenheit with 99 percent humidity and no rain for a week or more. It's brutal.

However, it's June. I checked all my calendars, and they agree with this assessment. We're having 95 degree weather with 60 percent or higher humidity. It's wiping me out.

The good news is, we keep getting thunderstorms to cool it down. The bad news is by August it will be worse. I'm barely handling 60 percent humidity. I don't know if I can take higher.

If it's any consolation, it's pretty much the same thing up here. I don't think we have quite the 60% humidity today, but it's 95, and was 95 yesterday, and it was 93 Sunday and 92 Saturday (Friday the high was 67. Go figure.) Saturday was the worst, since it rained, but Sunday was pretty damn sticky too.

At least in DC, that weather makes sense. OTOH, we are supposed to creep back down to to a seasonal mid-70s by the weekend.

Have you got any AC, or is it the walking outside that's the killer?

Walking outside. I finally decided to shut my windows and use the AC this weekend. It helps tremendously.

We're going to be in the upper 80s by the weekend, but the humidity should go back under 40%

Wheeeee!

I can't think of many things more miserable than summer in DC.

By the way!! It looks as though I will be in D.C. in late July or early August. Maybe we could meet up at a museum or something? I'd love to see you in person.

Yes, yes, yes. As long as it's not the weekend I'm getting my furniture.

I'm in walking distance of anything on the Mall.

This is cool.

I was going to send hugs, but in that heat, I think I'll just send some San Francisco fog instead.

Hugs in heat like this are counter productive. I have dumped great guys in weather like this just because I couldn't stand being touched (well, he also thought using ice in foreplay was way too kinky. Ice is kinky, and possibly twisted, in January - not summer)

Fog? Yes, please.

I'll send over the thunderstorms for August, but I'll ask mother nature if she could possibly make that rain cold to offset the bloody humidity.

Today, it was in the 60s with 96% humidity. *sighs* I like rain. But Bone-Clammy rain is not my idea of a cool day.

Clammy isn't fun, but I can always add another layer when I'm cold, even if it makes me look like Bibendum the Michelin man. I wanted to peel off my skin on Sunday. *G*

Guh. Tell me about it. The few days we had warm weather, they crept up to high 80s and lower 90s. I can't handle anything over 80 very well and eventually had to take a twenty minute cool shower just to cool down my head. Like you, I'd much rather put clothes on. In the heat, taking them off doesn't help. I've been in DC on a normal July so I have a good idea what you're going through. *hugs*

In 1998, I arrived in Baltimore on May 9. Within a week or two, I was cranking up the AC in the apartment on a daily basis. As I remember, it started early and went on for a long time.
