All right. I'm flat broke, but I can scrape up a Euro. Who wants to buy a house in Sicily with me? I'm kack-handed with power tools, but I'm willing to learn. I will do all the cookery and learn the local language for liaison purposes. I can lift things. I have furniture to get us started.

One of the crucial questions has to be "So why did everybody leave?" Unfortunately, it being Sicily, the answer may be, "organized crime".
Astonishingly, my professional org has a journal article about the state of the profession in Italy from 2005. Haven't read it.
