There's a DC Voting Rights Protest this afternoon/evening. The timing is to coincide with the vote on the bill to take away our ability to spend our local taxes on needle exchanges and on abortion. I've volunteered to take part in the civil disobedience and to be arrested.

It will probably be a $50 fine. But I'm still nervous. I've never had more than a parking ticket before. Even though this is a misdemeanor, it's big to me.

I feel that I have to be willing to stand on my principles, and that sometimes that may mean standing somewhere I don't want to be -- like the processing center of my local police station.

But I'm scared.

I'd be scared too - it's ingrained in me that you do not ever do something that will get you arrested. The fact that it's a protest and a good reason to get arrested wouldn't stop the other part of my brain from worrying. Courage, dearest Fabrisse!

I was just wondering the other day how your political career is going...

Eeee. I am wildly admiring you right now, because I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have the nerve to do this.

I admire your spirited stance very much indeed. Best of luck to you with your protest - I hope your ankle is feeling better and won't be causing extra embuggerance. I'll be thinking of you and really hoping you don't get arrested.

What I think is most impressive is that you're scared and DOING IT ANYWAY. You have my utmost respect for the reasons that you're protesting and the fact that you're willing to live your principles.

Hang in there and have a friend ready to meet you afterwards, knowing there is a caring person waiting may help.
