A little scared
May. 4th, 2011 10:43 amThere's a DC Voting Rights Protest this afternoon/evening. The timing is to coincide with the vote on the bill to take away our ability to spend our local taxes on needle exchanges and on abortion. I've volunteered to take part in the civil disobedience and to be arrested.
It will probably be a $50 fine. But I'm still nervous. I've never had more than a parking ticket before. Even though this is a misdemeanor, it's big to me.
I feel that I have to be willing to stand on my principles, and that sometimes that may mean standing somewhere I don't want to be -- like the processing center of my local police station.
But I'm scared.
