Last night wasn't all poison pens and vitriol.

About two weeks ago, one of the sixth grade girls decided I sounded like a cool lady. This was partly brought on from an incident in November where I'd had to tell her and some other girls to put away a Twilight fan magazine.

They told me I could never understand, and I pulled out the Forever Knight tie-in book I was currently reading.

Any way, I'm borrowing the book Twilight from her. In return, I loaned her the Baz Luhrman Romeo + Juliet. She loved it. She thinks Shakespeare is kind of cool.

*heh heh* I caught one.

Awesome way to bond. That's very cool. :-)

But good luck reading Twilight. There are so many things wrong with it, I can't count that high. I had to slog through it to be a good "auntie" to my LF(E)N kids, who are all devoted fans, which also meant I couldn't be really honest about my reaction to it; it's not fair to harsh their squee, after all. Ah, well. The things we do for love. *g*

The advantage of being a tutor ranther than an auntie is that I'm allowed to ask them questions about the relationships -- very pointed questions about why people who creep into your room at night to watch you sleep might be more twisted than romantic.

But first I must read it. Maybe it's not as bad as I think. *snort*

I'll be curious what you think of Twilight. I've suspect I'm vastly too old for it, and have been getting most of my insight into it from people who are appalled by it (it'd definitely easy enough to write up as appalling). But I don't actually know anyone who's both fannish and a critical reader who's given it a fair shake.

They're showing it soon MIT- I am slightly tempted to go. I probably won't bother, but I can't help thinking that if there's any crowd anywhere I'd want to see it w/, it's that one.

That is definitely the right audience. I think you should see it for the pop culture phenomenon. It's a lot shorter than the book.

Hee :oD Go you! More fans for the Bard. It's all in how they're introduced to it, I think. Both my girls think he's awesome.

It's just not as pervasive here, sadly. It's difficult to find a way to get the kids to see Shakespeare -- though DC is better than most in that regard. We have the Folger Shakespeare Library with its theater and another one just called Shakespeare Theater.
