I'm having a hard time writing my pantry post. But I want to tell you about one staple of my pantry -- powdered Gatorade.

Yes, it tastes foul. It's supposed to. If it tastes good, you need it. If it tastes like water -- and that's happened to me once -- you were severely dehydrated.

I like the powdered version because it keeps. It's on hand for emergencies. I'm facing my first real weekend of DC heat today and tomorrow. Swimming and Gatorade will be important.

Yes, you can drink pickle juice if you like. Seriously, it works. But I don't always have pickles in my fridge.

The one sensible thing I've recently decided to do is to switch soda for Gatorade. :) I've never bought the powdered stuff, I didn't know there *was* a powder, so I'll have to check the prices on that. :)

There are only two flavors that I know of in the powdered stuff, but penny for penny it's usually cheaper -- plus you don't have to worry about getting the bottles to recycling. Some stores put it with the other Gatorade, but my current local supermarket puts it with the Kool-ade and iced tea mixes.

Yeah, I figured they'd be with the Kool Aid. Or knowing some of these stores, with the juice. Ya never know.

Fortunately, my recycle bin is right outside my back door, which I then take to the alley for emptying on Tuesday mornings. :)

Ah, you have a city that cares about recycling. It's not too bad in DC, but there were some places in Massachusetts where you had to drive to a recycling center. No curbside pick up.

In Brussels, they picked up garbage on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Recycling was picked up on Wednesdays. This was in 1978.

That's pretty cool. Here in Everett, we've been recycling via waste management since the late 80s. Only ten years behind Brussels. Not too bad, considering.
