Community Supported Agriculture is a wonderful thing. It's such a nice idea that you pay in for your share, or in my case half-share, and throughout the late spring through late autumn, you get enough fresh vegetables for the whole week.

Or not.

I was prepared to come on-line Friday night and wax eloquent about the huge bounty my first delivery had given me.

What I got:
1 lb of baby kale
1/2 lb of mesclun greens that will be better when I've separated out the grass
Mixed herbs including lemon balm, oregano, basil, sage, and something that reminds me of Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors.
Cattawissa Onions (they're kind of cool)
3 French radishes

It's the first week. The weather's been wet. And farming is not an exact science.

My grandfathers were both farmers, in one case by profession and in the other case in order to eat. I know that harvests are unpredictable.

But I'm still a little disappointed. Which is why I didn't come on-line Friday and had a Man From U.N.C.L.E. marathon instead.

Oh dear. Mind you, it'll be a good challenge doing something with them! We have organic farms, especially urban ones, who provide veg boxes in season. You pays your money and you takes your choice. I think it's £15 for a decent sized box with several different veggies and fruits. It's a nice way to eat organic veg more reasonably priced and support the local community in the same way you do with the CSA.

Kudos! :o)

That sounds like a good system. For instance, I'm not looking forward to the bell peppers when they start, but I can't reject anything.

The only reason I look forward to more at my first pick-up (Tues) is that we get STRAWBERRIES!!!! Not too many this week, but worth it given that we live next door to the farm and can walk over. Things won't really get going for a couple of weeks around here.

I have become so severely allergic to strawberries that I can't even smell them. It breaks my heart. If I can find the strawberry pie recipe I have, I'll post it. I think you'll like it.

Congratulations on your first pick-up.

Well phooey. That's a disappointment.

Oh, and I'd happily take all the bell peppers off your hands. We loves them around here, we does.

Audrey? Seriously, herbs that *you* can't identify worry me a bit...

It appears to be the flower on the lemon balm. I'd only seen the leaves before.
