I went out for my birthday dinner with my family tonight. The actual birthday will be while I'm in Britain; we went in advance of the day.

It was a great meal, with a terrific view of Santa Monica Beach and the Pier at sunset. The restaurant's in an hotel, and there was a nice jazz combo playing in the lobby. We stayed to listen and have after dinner drinks.

Have you ever had the feeling someone was staring at you? I did tonight and looked up. There was Sean Maher. For those of you who don't know Serenity/Firefly, check out my icon.

I don't know if I had spinach in my teeth or what, but definitely staring at me. He's taller than he seems in Firefly -- I think the other men in that cast are all over six feet and the women aren't exactly short. Anyway, that's my random celebrity encounter for the month.

Definitely better than running into John Goodman at Big Boy's for breakfast. *G*

It was certainly my first "oh, my Lord, that's him" celebrity encounter. Jon Voigt at the deli is not in the same league.

And he's HANDSOME. Not actor good loooking, but genuinely handsome in person.

He was with friends, and I didn't want to be rude. I think I even managed to avoid the full double-take. *G*

He was appropriately dressed for the setting, too, which was more than I could say for many of the people there. And I'll completely assume coolness on his part. *G*
