Happy New Year -- Here's What I've been up to

My car hasn't died, but it is moribund. Keep your fingers crossed that it lives awhile longer.

I'm being sent to Tahiti by my office sometime in February. Should be fun. It'll be even more interesting if they bring me back.

I won four nights accomodation in Great Britain at the office Christmas party. I have to be one of the two people to go. For those of you who remember my housemates at Waldeck Street, I'm taking "Snow" -- She asked that I not put her real name on the web -- who lived on the top floor. She's on her second passport with no stamps in it. We'll be going over our mutual birthday weekend (Memorial day weekend: hers is on Saturday, mine's on Monday). Since my office didn't see fit to provide airfare, my parents are using their airmiles to give me mine as my birthday present. If anyone wants to contribute to Snow's (named for the Snow White costume she wore to Arisia), please let me know. I'll be coming into Boston a day early to say hi to everyone and to make sure that Snow and I share the wonderful warmth of Her Majesty's Customs and Passport Control together. I may get a day at the other end as well.

I'm taking a Yoga class again, and I've done my first supported handstand. It's cool.

Today I went to LACMA to catch the final day of the Pissarro/Cezanne exhibit. It was lovely, though crowded. There were several pieces that I wanted postcards of, but very few were available. I couldn't even find a book of the exhibit.

The ticket allowed me to visit the rest of the museum too, and I went to visit my favorite dancing Ganesha (he looks likes he's really boogieing) and a couple of beautiful Roman copies of Greek originals in the Ancient Art building. An annoying noise drove me out of the Japanese pavilion, but I'll go back.

I also viewed an exhibit called An Abundant Harvest of Sun which were works by an abstract West Coast artist named Lee Mullican.

Generally, I don't like abstract works, but these captured me. I kept writing down titles of pieces -- I tried to get a copy of the poster for the exhibit or a post card or something, but nothing was immediately available. I've found the exhibit book on Amazon, and may get it at some point in the far distant future.

They were exquisite.

The trip to Tahiti sounds amazing. Were you just joking about them not bringing you back? What is the purpose of the trip?

The trip to Great Britain sounds even more fun since I'm assuming it's a regular vacation. (How odd to give four nights in a faraway place, but not include airfare, though.)

Britain's a vacation. I'm staying longer than my friend is -- more leave time saved -- so that I can visit friends. I have decided on one extra night at the hotel in London, and we're taking the night train back from Edinburgh to maximize our time there.

Tahiti sounds wonderful (my parents were there in early December, and the pictures are gorgeous). That at least sounds like a pretty darn good job perk. I hope the rest of the job is going well.

The England trip sounds cool (but how just like an employer to give you lodging w/out airfare. Probably hoping the winner books it through them).

I think you're going to have a whole line of people wanting to catch up w/ you during your day in Boston.

Work's tough, mostly because so many of the executives are completely clueless. However, it does have some nice perqs.

As soon as the London hotel confirms, I'll get the Edinburgh hotel squared away and then put out the official word. London has to come first because it's only good on weekends, I can arrange Edinburgh for any two days of the week.
