Sep. 30th, 2005 04:37 pmThey didn't close the office today. I know that because I was there for nearly 5 minutes this morning.
They sent me home after:
A) Being very nice about my coughing fit
B) Reaming me out (gently) for not staying home.
The announcement on the news was "people with asthma should stay away from the fire zones." I don't have asthma. I came to work. The breathing problems started nearly three miles away. (The entire valley reeks of smoke which makes sense when you realize that we're pretty much walled in by fire on the west and the east.) I figured that the heavy duty industrial type air conditioning would be fine. I should have remembered yesterday, I guess. Then I was OK, but already having a scratchy throat and a lot of "harrumphing" as I tried to clear it.
Then I crossed the parking lot. Not so fine. Or rather the ash was very fine indeed. I started coughing, got sent home, started the drive back, and didn't breathe without coughing until I was once again several miles away. My ribs ache.
So. No pay today. On the plus side, I went to my Dad's doctor appointment with him and was able to get both 'flu and pneumonia shots. The reversal into the garden wall at my parents house was definitely on the minus side.
Sis is sick, so no Serenity until tomorrow.

Date: 2005-10-02 07:46 am (UTC)And you haven't seen Prototype or The Fourth Horseman yet? I'm anxious to hear what you think about them both. It's very interesting that on a few of the forums, a lot of people liked Prototype better, but on LJ, I've found that a lot of people liked The Fourth Horseman better. Not that it's a contest between the two or anything, but I just thought it was interesting that a lot of people had very different reactions to these episodes, and it didn't seem to be split along fandom lines.
I know you are so busy now with your new job and everything (which is a good thing, I hope), but when you get a chance to see the episodes I hope you'll also have a chance to write at least a little of what you think of them. :-)
I hope your sister is feeling better soon, too.
I've seen all the excitement over Serenity, but I don't even know what it's about or why I'd like to see it. hehe I don't usually actually go to the movies, though maybe I'll take the kids to see this movie next weekend when my daughter's home from school. I should first check to see if it's the kind of movie a mother would want to see with her kids, though. It's one thing to let the kids make their own decisions, another to cringe with embarrassment while sitting there watching it with them. ;-)

Date: 2005-10-02 07:21 pm (UTC)Other than a couple of discussions about sex, and one kiss that falls out of frame, there shouldn't be anything cringeworthy. The violence level is high in places and the good guys are law breakers, but I think your kids are old enough to parce levels of morality, aren't they?
Hugs.
