Mom's retinas are organically fine. However, since her last hospital visit, her eyesight, especially her left peripheral and below midline visions, is failing. She does better with the lights on, but refuses to turn them on if she's just going to the bathroom. Her last two falls, one of which included a bleeding shin which isn't great on blood thinners, have both been precipitated by her trying to go somewhere in the dark.

On the plus side, the dogs have learned to stand to her right where she can see them. One of the dogs noticed he wasn't getting treats from her on the left and switched sides.

We thought Nicky was less intelligent than Nora, but he's done several things, like figuring out that he could get treats from Mom by switching sides.

While I don't think they're plotting world domination, I am disappointed that he can't replace Boris Johnson.

Would a motion sensor in the bathroom help?

You mean to turn on a light automatically? It might. Probably in the little hall between her bed and the bathroom for best effect.
