YouTube, bless its electronic heart, occasionally comes up with good recommendations for me. I stress occasionally because most of its recommendations make me tilt my head while looking at the screen and ask "why?"

Today it recommended a German Comedian named Vince Ebert. As someone who's lived in Germany, all I can say is that my laughter was the laughter of recognition.

You can try his humor here.

[Side note: the simplest address I ever had was in Mannheim; I lived at J7, 20. The nobleman who'd built the town loved chess and the inner part of the city was laid out like two chess boards with A-J vertically -- looking from above -- on one side of the main street, and K-T on the other. The horizontals were the numbers. At least on the A-J side, I don't think it went higher than 10, but I'm not positive because J stopped at 7.
For some reason, Americans found this horribly confusing. My mother and I, who rarely see eye-to-eye, both found it amazingly simple. But then, we'd both lived in DC.]

Most Germans find it horribly confusing too - Mannheim, that is, not Vince Ebert :)
