Since I am a slight Harry Potter nerd. (Apparently, Pottermore has changed and I had to get re-sorted into a house, too. Goodbye, Ravenclaw. *sniff* Hello, Slytherin? I hate snakes. *shudder*)

Anyway, the Patronus gives you a very short time to pick a word, sometimes with a question, but not always. It kept saying, "You have a very rare one. Just one more question." Seriously, I had about five "one more questions." I ended up with Fire Salamander.

Hey there, big fella. On the plus side, Harry Potter always teaches us something. I found out they're amphibians, not lizards (reptiles).

Still, there are some interesting myths around fire salamanders. Paracelsus decided they were fire elementals according to about six webpages. They represented bravery, mastery of passion, impartiality (good for a politician), and virginity (again, WTF?).

Since my patronus literally has flames preceding it and occasionally surrounding it, I'm going with the mythical version that Francis I used.

EXCUSE ME, WHAT? You are SUCH a Ravenclaw! *indignant*

I call coding error on the part of Pottermore developers. Hmph.

The patronus test is kind of weird, isn't it? I ended up with a Siberian [forest] cat. Me. A cat. When there are apparently a whole slew of dog breeds, birds, and other more appropriate things, I get... a cat? *headtilt with bonus squint*

I know, right? Ravens are cool. Even Quoth the Raven in Pratchett is cool in his own way.

What breed do you see yourself as? I could see one of the herding dogs or perhaps a royal standard poodle -- especially as I think you'd be polite enough not to shed. ;-)

Heh. That is exactly the source of my username -- Belgian Malinois (herding) + standard poodle = Mal 'n poodle = malnpudl. *g*

I chose the name because my dog at the time (and soulmate) was a Malinois and I was planning to get a standard poodle next. In the end, I got a divorce instead. Life happens. *wry face*

As for myself, I'm pretty sure I'm herding dog through and through. Possibly a German Shepherd (European line, not American show line).

I would actually expect my patronus to be a barn owl.

What would you have thought your own patronus would be?

And as I am a German Shepherd, what kind of creature is your parallel?

I'm fascinated by raptors, so would have liked one of those. If I had to be a non-raptor bird, I'd've liked hummingbird or raven. Otherwise, any mammal that isn't classified under rodentia. Heck, I'd've settled for a platypus since I've always been considered odd.

The more I think about it, I wouldn't have been at all surprised if I'd gotten a brown bear as my patronus. I sleep alot, eat more in the winter, like fruit and salmon, and generally don't show my temper if people leave me alone.

So, Belgian Malinois... have you watched Person of Interest? In the second season, a Malinois named Bear joins the team. And he has a Twitter account. It's in Dutch -- long story -- but Google does a reasonable translation. It's very, very funny for a very dark (but wonderful) show.

I got the ocicat. Sort of a domestic cat made to look like a wildcat. Not sure how I feel about that. I am a hufflepuff.

Do you think Hufflepuff's right? And, yeah, ocicat? That seems odd. Though at least it's a mammal. Apparently, the more questions you're asked the more likely you are to get a mythical creature.
