RIP: Cilla Black

Most of my American friends won't have heard of Cilla Black, but I remember her from my childhood in London. Her one big hit in the US was the theme to the movie Alfie.

This one is about the recording "Alfie."

This song was written for her by Paul McCartney. It's one of the few that he wrote for other artists while he was with The Beatles.

Just found one of her singing with the Dudley Moore Trio.

Oh, dear, yes - this was much in the news when I was in London. Very sad.

I know most people remember her from gameshows, etc. I really wasn't around for that, but I do remember seeing her on top of the pops along with Lulu and Sandy Shaw. She had such a distinctive voice.

Yoo-hoo, sorry for the long silence re my NY trip. I got back from London only to find 2 urgent projects for editing, so I've been swamped ever since. Meanwhile, I realized I have one more school to check with, where I usually do a week of intensive classes in January. But of course it's Assumption Day week and everyone's gone. So, I hate to put you off again, but I'm hoping to get at least an approximate date for the intensives next week. Fingers crossed that they don't involve the MLK weekend.
