I did it.

I was arrested sometime after 7:30 p.m. with seven other women. I was the first in the wagon and, along with a DC Councilwoman, the first released.

I'll go into greater detail tomorrow.

Thank you for all the kind comments on my previous post.

ETA: The Fox News footage in the comments (thank you[livejournal.com profile] siderea) shows me twice. I'm in a bright blue trench coat and can be seen in the background when Councilwoman Alexander is talking; and it's my wrists that shown when we were being cuffed. I have the bruises this morning to prove it! (For the record, the Capitol Police were unfailingly polite and gentle. I did some unconscious struggling against the cuffs which is how I got the bruises.)

You guys have made the Post, the Examiner, WTOP, The Hill (a blog), and the Albany Times Union, though your name in not explicitly mentioned. The protest is universally explained as having to do with abortion. No mention is anywhere about needle exchange, and passing little about home rule.

Yes, the focus was on women's issues because that's the bill that was being passed (it bans us from EVER using our local funds for abortion) even as we protested, but the protest was organized by DC Votes, most of the speakers discussed fairness and civil rights, and the signs that were being held said "Taxation Without Representation."

*sigh*

Yvette Alexander (Councilwoman Ward 7) said we need to block the bridges and shut down the Fed ourselves. I'd been saying that privately for awhile. Soon...

ETA: The Albany Times-Union? Really?
The Examiner is slightly to the right of Margaret Thatcher, btw.

ETA: Just in Fox 5. Didn't catch you in the footage. I'm very disturbed how much, er, fairer the Fox video is than the other coverage. I... I need a shower now.

You can see me in the background when Yvette Alexander was speaking, and those are my wrists in the bright blue coat when they show the handcuffing.

Go you! I am very proud that you stood up for what you believe in (and what's right, imho) despite your fears. That's inspiring.

It feels unreal in some ways. And I think I disappointed my family.

:( Even if they don't agree with you, I would think they would be proud of you for standing up for what you believe in. I am proud of you for that. *hug*

I'm so proud of you!! That was incredibly brave and I'm glad at least the police were courteous.

Take care.

They were courteous. We were such an unlikely group of people in some ways...
