My suggestion about getting rid of these button-y things was rejected. However, it was rejected because someone else's with more reasons was accepted. We should see a fix (soon-ish) that will allow journal owners to prevent crossposting to other social networks.

Um... I not sure that's been completely decided yet. If you check out the last few posts in [livejournal.com profile] news (and have several hours to kill), there's been a lot of complaints/controversy about this. LJ has announced that they are implementing a fix (at some point) which will prevent someone from cross posting their comment when they comment in someone else's friend's locked post. However, there have been several calls for an journal "opt out" option to disable people from cross-posting their comments to other people's non-friends locked posts, and that hasn't been adequately addressed.

(If you read those comments, you'll see that there have also been reports of LJ staff members 'trolling' the posts (their comments have now been deleted) and LJ staff members posting insults in locked journal entries. Fun times, LJ, fun times...)

The suggestion that's been accepted would allow the journal owner to opt out of the buttons for reposting for their own journal and commenters to it.

Whether it's fully implemented is, of course, the question, but that's the way it's being approached.
