Diversions

I cannot deal with the real world at the moment. As both a pacificist and a daughter of the military, my shame is too deep. I hope to be able to comment coherently on current events soon.
So. Diversions.
Has anybody else been to imdb and looked at a cast list for Troy? What does it tell you that Helen's handmaiden has a higher ranking in the cast list than Patroclus? Worse, there's no listing at all for Hecuba or Cassandra, though to be fair there does seem to be an Andromache. So the only women (Remember, Homer mentions these women, and one of the other sources for the Trojan war legends is Euripides' The Trojan Women.) that show up in this version are Achilles' mother Thetis, Helen, Helen's Handmaiden, and someone name Polydora -- oh yes, Andromache gets a bare look-in. There's no mention of Clytemnestra or Iphigenia either.
I know that the opening line of The Iliad is "This is the story of the wrath of Achilles," but really, the consequences of the war are shown through the House of Priam.
My biggest problem is, I think I still want to see the movie. I can't think why, I loathe Brad Pitt and never really got the appeal of Orlando Bloom. Still, Peter O'Toole as Priam could make up for a lot. Maybe I'll wait until it's at one of the second run theaters.
My second diversion is political. There's a new internet ad with Laura Bush saying how important education is to her and that the President agrees. It's currently showing at least once an hour at Television Without Pity.
What I like is that there's a little link at the bottom of the ad that says "Ad feedback." Yep, Yahoo asks you questions about the ad and its message. It even includes a bit for you to put in your own opinions. Please go forth and let them know exactly how good a President you think Mr. Bush has been for education.
Don't forget to run an anti-Spyware program after you've done so. Yahoo is pretty bad for trying to put nasties on your computer.

Cranky, snarky, who bought a ticket for Troy,
went into the theatre, sipped cola, gazed at the big screen,
sighed as the gaudy trailers moved towards their end.
Begin, Muse, when it became apparent
something here was really, really, really wrong.

Date: 2004-05-14 06:33 am (UTC)Achilles ripped his Achilles tendon? That's as good as the actor playing Jesus in The Passion getting struck by lightning while giving the sermon on the mount. How could anyone miss clue buses that big?
I've been sick again, but I'm coping and getting my various acts together. If you're around this weekend or next (or even better free on 5/29), let's meet up.
