Begging

I have only three weeks of mentoring left. I want to get the six students I've worked with the most a book apiece. I don't have any money and I don't know that my tax refund will arrive in time.

If anyone would like to purchase a copy of one of the books and send it to me to pass along to one of my scholars, send me a message through LJ.

Please let me make this clear, I am NOT requesting money. If I can do this for the kids, great. If I can't, great. But it occurred to me today that if I didn't at least try, I'd be mad at myself.

There's one scholar who's not part of my group -- the one who loved Shakespeare, the others have been either part of my regular group or regularly joined my group when their mentor was out.

The books I want to give them are:

Nation by Terry Pratchett to Shakespeare girl.
Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett to one of my regulars and the one who came to visit a lot.
Science of the Discworld by Terry Pratchett to one of my regulars.
The Saturdays by Elizabeth Enright to one of my regulars.
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle to one of my regulars.

On the other hand, six copies of The Science of the Discworld would also work. I'm open to suggestions, too. If you had a book you really loved at that age and want to pass on, we can talk. If you know of a good travel book for kids, I'd love to substitute that for one of the Wee Free Men copies.

Anyway. I've cast my bread upon the waters. *G*

edited to add: Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke would also be welcome. One of my scholars is really into Venice as a subject.
