I stood out on my balcony and watched the sun go down behind the Washington Monument. It was a pretty sunset, and I loved looking over the trees. It's the lacy time of year with new leaves. Some of the trees are still so heavy with blossoms. There's one tree, an apple sapling, that's on my path to the metro. The branches hang down and I can bury my face in the blossoms and just sniff. I've been startled by how strong the scents are. I'll find myself turning my head to find the tree whose scent has just wafted across my nose.
