Sep. 28th, 2005 11:20 pmI haven't had much time to catch up with everyone's LJs this week. I'm sorry. I hope to play catch up this weekend.
If you have been hearing about the fires in Chatsworth, California, they're near where I work. Near enough that we may be evacuated to our homes tomorrow. It created a beautiful sunset -- until I realized that sunset was two hours away and what I was seeing were the effects of the sun refracting through the smoke.
Weirdly enough, I noticed the smell of the pine trees this morning and thought it was the best part of being in California. The scent was coming on the Santa Ana winds -- and isn't that a romantic name -- and those winds are what are spreading the fire. It's already jumped over two different highways because the winds are that strong.
I've been through hurricanes, nor'easters, and even a couple of small tornados. I expected earthquakes -- there've been a couple of small tremors. But no one warned me that there are four seasons in LA: Rainy, Spring, Summer, and Fire.
