Dreams

I got home late last night to find that I have maintenance coming into my apartment today. I'd planned to spend Saturday cleaning, but I ended up having to do quite a bit last night and this morning.

This led to a bad night's sleep including a dream I've had before. I hate recurring dreams, although at least this one doesn't involve watching my family and friends being executed in front of me. (Yeah, that one runs in the family, and I have both Dad and Mom's variations -- Sis only gets Dad's version. *touches wood* It's been a long time since I've had either of those.)

So, for anyone who'd like to interpret...

I'm trying to get the apartment clean, and every time I go in the living room another bookcase has disappeared. At one point, a refrigerator appears where a bookcase used to be, and a new door shows up next to an old closet. Opening that door leads to a multi-story drop. I close the door only to have another bookcase disappear.

As I said, better than execution dreams, but still weirdly disturbing. Oddly enough the refrigerator appearing is almost worse than the bookcases and their contents going away.

No idea about the dream (though I agree it sounds disturbing, and sounds perfectly logical in light of worrying about cleaning and clutter).

But figured I'd point out that it's still Discardia (till April 14th), so your unexpected cleaning is very timely. (Plus, now you should have more time to relax on Saturday.)

Yea! I'm celebrating Discardia. I'll still be doing quite a bit on Saturday, but, yes, it should be easier.

Hell, I'll take a stab. Could it be the trying to clean the apartment represents your wish to being order and harmony to your world, to control your own destiny, the books are your rational self, and the fridge is your emotional self?

The fact that the repository of food is a fridge and somewhat menacing is interesting - as you say, its appearance here is a harbinger of danger. Incidentally, even if you hadn't said you found the fridge menacing, I'd have wondered if the fact that the food source was chilled, as opposed to say a larder, signified emotions consciously held back. I wonder if it could be that in the dream you fear emotional responses as taking away rationality and even potentially leading to disaster. Although the 'opening doors' bit suggests opportunity too, even if their potential is qualified.

I know nothing about dream analysis, you understand but I find people's dreams endlessly fascinating.

I love that you took a stab.

Hmmm, about the fridge. It's certainly possible. I definitely love to cook meals, but find my current refrigerator problematic (it will go icy and then not keep cold). Plus, the idea that someone is in the apartment to put the new things there...

I definitely worry about my emotions taking away my rationality. It's happened before.

Thank you!
