The first same-sex couples are applying for their marriage licenses today. With the waiting period, the first weddings may be performed on Tuesday.

We join Massachusetts, Iowa, Connecticut, Vermont, and New Hampshire in permitting same-sex marriage.

eta: I just saw, via the article in The New York Times, that one of my colleagues and her partner were the first in line! *G*

dcnetworks.org pulls all the local joblistings from the major sites. I work for the DC department that keeps it up to date.

You can also try Idealist.org. Many of the places that post there are charities who need attorneys. DCJobs.com is good, too. Good luck in your search.

The legal challenges -- there have been at least three -- have all been circumvented by the fact that DC's human rights act states referenda are not permitted on human rights issues. Congress had thirty of their working days to put their fingers in and chose not to.

If you feel strongly about this issue, I recommend you not live in Virginia. Their Defense of Marriage Act is the narrowest definition in the country -- it will not even permit the Commonwealth to recognize marriages from other states.

Here's hoping a future City Council doesn't try to rescind it, but I think that's unlikely.

Thank you so much for the info. I really appreciate it and gives me additional places to broaden my search.
