The salt cod is soaking. I'll be baking it with bay leaf, garlic, olive oil, potatoes, and milk. I have Broccoli Rabe for my side dish, and I'm making apple gelatin for dessert.

There's enough salt cod for two meals, so I'm only soaking half. I'll fix the rest for New Year's Eve and try one of the Italian recipes with olives and tomatoes that I've seen. (I need to see if they have fresh black eyes at my local Safeway again. That with mixed greens and cornbread is the traditional New Year's Day feast in this neck of the woods.)

My plan is to see The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus on Christmas Day. I don't live in New York or L.A. so all that "Opens Christmas Day" stuff is a lie! *kicks a can and mopes* It sounds so dumb, but I was really looking forward to it. And all the museums are closed Christmas Day which makes no sense to me. It's not even opening the following week which would be a cool "Let's welcome in the New Year" mindfuck; it opens here on January 8.

The Corcoran is free for those who live in Southwest DC on Saturday, so I'm going to head there. It's the only major museum I haven't been to since moving here.

Sunday, I'm meeting up with friends to see Young Victoria.

Also! completely unrelated to anything (other than I am kind of craving apple gelatin now and am thinking of picking up some apple cider and gelatin powder on my way home)-

when do you want to meet up for hangings out/dinner on my day in DC? Also, any recommendations on things to do? I was thinking of hanging out in a yarn store and a museum, but dunno.

What is the actual date you will be in DC? I don't work too far from Union Station, and Union Station is not too far from several museums. Yarn store would probably be difficult to find.

Do you like ice cream? I could take you to Giffords.

I will be in DC Wednesday Jan. 13 from about 11 AM to sometime before 10 PM (train leaves at 10). The yarn store is on 731 8th Street Southeast, which looking at the map is not completely unreasonably far from Union Station, so.

and yay, ice cream!

Okay, I just checked and that's still the safe part of Southeast. *whew*

If you are interested in Museums, the whole Mall isn't far from Union Station, but one of my favorites, the National Building Museum is even closer than that. There's also the National Portrait Gallery/American Art Museum at 7th and F or G Streets, NW (the building takes up the whole block). There's a good woodfired pizza place near it (plus DC's Chinatown which is tiny), and it's walking distance to Giffords.

If you do your museuming in the morning, and the yarn store mid-afternoon, I could take you for dinner not far from there. No Giffords nearby, though.

I'm taking that same train the following night to get to Boston for Arisia.
