Dear Yuletide Writer:

This is my first time participating and I didn't know about the fandom list part. My bad. So I know there will be no VR.5 fic this year, even if Oliver and Sydney are really cool together. In the immortal words of Charles Schulz, "Maybe next year."

Having said that here are three kickass fandoms that I would really love to read more fiction in. No death stories please, and I'll take any level of doom and gloom as long as there is hope left at the end of the story.

Sapphire and Steel: I love these two together, and, while I don't think their link is romantic necessarily, Steel kissing Sapphire's hand in series two is very erotic. I want a case. Other elements may be part of it, but the main focus should be on our two leads. Any rating is fine as long as the higher ratings are not for violence. I know the DVDs are available through Netflix. If you can only watch one or two series (it's a British show *G*), then go for series 2 and series 5 first.

Wiseguy: Talk about obscure, I don't even care about most people's favorite arc, and I've never been a huge fan of Terranova. The character I want to know more about is Frank McPike. As long as McPike is the center, all other characters, especially the Lifeguard, are welcome. If I can get an appearance by John Henry Raglan, of the garment district arc, so much the better. I'd definitely not like a focus on torture, even though I know it is part of their world. Whump has never been my thing. But I can live with explicit sexual situations (het or slash) as long as they don't devolve into kink. I like kink, but not in this fandom. The DVDs for my favorite arc are called "Prey for the City." It's only six or eight episodes altogether.

The 4400: I adore Marco. I can be happy with any rating of story set around any season of the series as long as he's a part of it. I'd love a story with him and Diana, but if that doesn't float your writerly boat, just please don't pair Diana with anyone else. I want Marco happy. *G* My ultimate dream would be to have a post-season 4 story showing people dealing with powers and their fear of what the Government might want to do when the quarantine is lifted. Libraries may have this series. The seasons are relatively short.

I'm glad friends steered me to Yuletide. I hope whatever I write will be as good as the stories already archived.

Hugs,

Fabi

Migod, I didn't realize you were one of the five other people on earth who had ever heard of VR.5. I saw half an episode once, and was more or less convinced I had hallucinated the whole thing.

I have the whole series on videotape somewhere. I hope it comes out on DVD at some point, just because I'd like to take it with me and convert people.

It is like an hallucination.

[livejournal.com profile] taraljc saw it and loved it. She got me to beta a story for her in the fandom before I even knew what the premise was...then made me marathon the show. Very, very good.

Her fic is online here (http://ljconstantine.com/fanfic/vr5.htm).

Just facilitating as I can. :-)

Yes! I love her stories in the Firefly fandom. VR.5 fic by her should be awesome. I really need a VR.5 icon.

I'm probably the only person in the world who shouted "Oliver!" when Giles saw Ethan Raine in that Buffy season 2 Halloween episode. *G*

Um....actually, no, Tara did the same. *grin* Course, that was her first response in S1 when she first saw Giles, period. *grin* Enjoy her stuff!

Geh. I'm not quite sure what the point of this comment is, considering I haven't been writing too much of anything, let alone something for Yuletide. But! I just wanted to say that I adored The 4400, I wish they'd had more of an idea of what direction they wanted things to go in, and then maybe the series would've lasted a little longer. Such an interesting concept, with the oldest of the abductees appearing to be the youngest (what an emotional upturn), being persecuted for their powers even if they were given them to save their kind.

I still blame Heroes being on NBC for The 4400's demise.

Two shows owned by the same network that were too close in basic premise meant that one had to go. The shenanigans Heroes pulled around mid-season 3 makes me think the wrong one went.

I did write a crossover of them.

I adored that the show never duplicated an ability. I have a strong sense--and heard somewhere--that The 4400 was a casualty of the writer's strike; the timing was such that it...just didn't come back.

If they weren't a Canadian show, I'd believe it. There was actually a fan push to bring them back because they could work during the strike, but TPTB weren't listening.

Their final season, the only reason I knew the first episode was on was because my DVR caught it. There was almost no publicity, unlike the previous years, so there's many a conspiracy theory. *G*

I like that the abilities were unique. It makes sense, on so many levels, that there would be a personality component to how a brain chemical would work.

Are you sure that they were entirely counted as a Canadian show wrt funding and such? And wasn't the CWG acting in solidarity with the WGA? I'm not meaning to challenge your information as to draw out more; I wasn't ever "in the fandom"--watched the whole thing on DVD, I did--and so am curious to see what was said on the streets at the time.

I know the producers, writers, etc. were all Canadian as were most, if not all, of the actors. Stargate and several other shows which were purely Canadian were still filming, but they may have already had the scripts in hand. I don't think CWG was coordinating with WGA, at least at the beginning of the strike, but I could definitely be wrong.

Still, the show had already been canceled by then. This was a fan idea that was promoted, so there could have been a great many reasons why it didn't or couldn't work.

Just curious, are you still reading in the Robin Hood fandom and Guy/Marian? (I came here via your comment on one of Sandrine's fics.)
