This has been a very difficult autumn. I'm depressed beyond words and the crying jags are starting. It hasn't been this bad since the switch clicked to depression nearly two years ago.

So much of it is sunlight. I try to make certain that I get some every day, but it's been particularly dark and damp this year. Unlike London or Brussels, I don't have a reason to be outside every day for twenty to forty minutes no matter the weather. It's so easy to stay inside staring at the white spaces on my computer.

A walk a day? Where to? Simple exercise would do alot for me. It's not like I don't have videos and DVDs to help me with it, but somehow the will is lacking.

That's a big part of it, I know. My body loves to move. Stretching is as sensual as eating or sex, but the first few days/weeks after not having done it in awhile is always fraught with pulled muscles, fatigue, weird moments of zero blood sugar while my metabolism adjusts.

And yet, light. Exercise. Sleep. How much of this pain would go away if I could get enough of three such simple things?

So yeah. I've been guilty of not encouraging you to go out for a walk. Sorry.

May I suggest that when you awaken, you fix yourself a cup of morning tea and head out to see the world for a half hour or so. Getting started right away will keep you from being distracted.

I also promised to call from work at noon each day and check on you.

I warn you. You will be severely chidden if no walkie walkie has been done.

I also have a hard time motivating myself to go outside--particularly since I became unemployed. However, what I ended up doing is cultivating a habit of going out everyday around 3pm to run errands - whether it's post office, grocery store or going to the bank. There is always some little thing I need to do. Once I got into this habit, it because routine to get myself dressed and ready by 3, so I could go out and do my stuff.

I think the advice above is pretty good. Also, you have probably already done this, but herbal antidepressants might be helpful. ::hugs:: I know how you feel.

Maybe the trick is to pick a time of day when it makes sense to walk? Possibly in the morning, to wake you up before work. Or the afternoon/evening, to destress after work. It doesn't have to be to anywhere, if there isn't anything handy nearby. Me, when I start falling asleep after lunch, I sneak out and walk to the end of the neighboring dead end street and back for 20 minutes or so. Whatever time of day works best for you - it's probably easier if the walk can be a reward rather than a chore.

And virtual hugs, if they help.
