Dear Yulegoat --

I usually tell you that I've written lots of fanfic during the year, but this year, thanks to family issues, I haven't. I have written a few things, though.

The fandoms I've chosen have all given me joy. None of them is light or fluffy. I apparently don't need good special effects to enjoy something either. All of these fandoms are ones that make me think and feel in about equal measure, and I like that sensation.

General nos: Extreme or explicit violence. Rape or Dubcon. A/B/O. AUs unless requested. There are certain acts which just don't turn me on: scat, blood play, golden showers. Any BDSM must be safe, sane, and consensual.

General yeses: Exploration of emotions and the consequences of actions, even if those consequences are negative. I'm fine with explicit slash, het, or threesomes (or moresomes). I like a happy ending -- it's Yuletide; let's celebrate -- but I completely understand if it doesn't make sense within the story. A well-written fic with a sad resolution is better than something jammed in to make it happy.

Yuletide Requests:
The Man From Earth (2007)
Mr. Calder & Mr. Behrens - Michael Gilbert
Heat of the Sun (TV Series)
Now, Voyager (1942)
The Champions (TV 1968)
Continuum (TV)

The Man from Earth

Occasionally, I just bumble around Netflix or Prime and stumble upon a movie or series that I would never have sought out but is absolutely up my alley. The Man from Earth was one of those movies. [enough of the reviews on the sequel have led me to believe that I wouldn’t like it and might find the original diminished, so please don’t use it for reference.] The movie is still available on Amazon Prime with no further fee involved.

John Oldman gets his day in the film. While I would love to have interactions with him, I’m primarily interested in three of his friends: Dan, Edith, and Harry – in that order.

Dan was fascinated and open-minded. Of the three, he’s the one I think most likely to seek out John and pursue things further. But there’s also the ruminations about time and the implications of John’s story, so I’d love to read more about that whether in his own head, with John, or with the other two in my request. (If you throw in Art, I won’t be upset, but he doesn’t get to replace one of the ones I like.)

Edith was frightened. Does she overcome it? Does it reinforce her faith, or does she lose it? Does she seek out John to find out more, seek out the others? Where might her story end?

Harry was the most flippant of the three. I never got a good grasp on where he came down on the central problem. Would he approach Dan to talk about it more? Edith? John himself? Is he willing to just “live and let live” as he describes religion in his family, or does this conversation awaken something in him – religious, scientific, or philosophical? Mature rating at highest.

Heat of the Sun seems to be currently available at Amazon Prime. There are only three episodes.

Albert Tyburn is basically a good man and a good detective. His choice to kill a man who couldn’t be brought to justice has put him in Kenya, probably for the rest of his life. I love his relationships with his sergeant (James Valentine) and his constable (Jonah Karinde). I find his romance with Emma Fitzgerald sweet, and I love that she’s a woman earning her own living in the place she was born.

I want a case. If it happens at the club, if Chico de Ville gets involved with Tyburn’s team, if it exposes some of the hypocrisy of British Rule, that’s all to the good. None of those are required. I just want a case which explores the setting and the time period. Glamorous or out in the bush makes no difference to me, if Tyburn and his team are ticking over like the well-oiled machine they are. Any rating works.

Mr. Calder and Mr. Behrens -- Michael Gilbert (Teen or Mature -- no sex)

I want another of their adventures, with or without Rasselas. My favorite of all the stories is "The Decline and Fall of Mr. Behrens" with its line "Few people fight dirtier than an aroused establishment" and his fighting very dirty indeed when he's angry. I love Rasselas. I like Mr. Fortescue. The Dilly Club would be a nice inclusion. There's something so comforting about their brand of British ruthlessness.

Now, Voyager
Doctor Jacquith – I used him in a story set in roughly the same time frame as the film Now, Voyager because I love Claude Rains, and I think Doctor Jacquith is a magnificent psychiatrist. So I want a story with him. It can be an expansion of Now, Voyager or a crossover with another film from the 1930s or 1940s where a character needs either psychotherapy or time at Cascades. Are the characters from Bringing up Baby committed? Do the leads from Love, Affair need help with their relationship? Would Ingrid Bergman’s character from Notorious not have gone to Brazil if she’d had proper treatment for her alcoholism? What about that Wayne boy and his obsession with bats? Or if you prefer an older Bruce Wayne, what if Doctor Jacquith treated Dick Grayson for his trauma? I’m not a huge fan of gangster movies, but I’ll be happy with any film crossover from the right time frame. I love Hitchcock, Capra, and screwball comedies.

The Champions (1968) – Richard Barrett, Sharron McReady, Craig Stirling, Tremayne
Any rating.
Specific DNW: Richard in a relationship with one other member of his team. Both is fine.

I got a great story in this fandom last year, but I'm still so intrigued by the possibilities of a pairing or OT3. I'm interested in the lighter -- more romantic? -- side of their powers.

I will happily take case fic with the caveat that Sharron can’t be an afterthought as she so often seemed to be. It can be set in 1965 and be Craig’s first job with Nemesis (though I don’t think Sharron was part of the agency at that point, her husband was. I’ll make an exception for peripheral Sharron in that event.). It can be set a decade later when all their powers have manifested fully. I can imagine they’d be more than formidable by then.

If you want to delve more deeply into their powers, how they differ (I think TV Tropes has a couple of instances) and where they overlap, that would bring joy to my heart. Sharron doesn’t seem to feel what the others are feeling in the same way that Richard and Craig do with each other. Does she develop it later? Does she not have it because it would interfere with a power that’s only hers? Craig seems to use super-hearing more than the others. Is it just the nature of his assignments or is his more developed, because he’s a bit telepathic? He certainly seems to be, per TVTropes and from my own reading of the show, the most empathic of the three. I love that, because feelings are usually women’s work. It’s nice that The Champions made it a masculine feature, and, I confess, Craig is my favorite character. Code breaker Richard seems to be able to assimilate different pieces of information more quickly than the others. Is it true, or did he develop this power more quickly than the others due to the nature of his previous assignments or training?

The other “lighter side” is their interpersonal relationships. By the end of the series (1971), Sharron’s been widowed for four years. I think she and Craig have good chemistry. Do they get together? Richard often feels what Craig is feeling physically. What does that do with consent issues? How do they develop blocks from each other when at least part of their powers seems to derive from their shared knowledge and interactions. I could see them as an OT3. And setting up their living arrangements, etc. plus keeping the relationship from Tremayne could be played as tragedy or, preferably, farce. I don’t like the idea of Richard having a relationship with Sharron that doesn’t include Craig. Frankly, Richard strikes me as asexual but hiding it in the free love 1960s. That can be part of them being an OT3 or could lead to commentary from Richard while Craig and Sharron are going hot and heavy. It could also be interesting to have one of them marry or get serious outside the group. How does that go over with the others? Does the new person figure them out on some level?

In some ways Nemesis and UNCLE from the Man from UNCLE are very similar. They both seem to have some connection to the UN and/or Interpol. What type of international problems come under Nemesis' purview? Why? How are their agents selected? Richard is from an era where there was still mandatory military service in Britain. Craig was in the U.S. Air Force. How does Sharron acquire her fighting skills? What is Craig's field of expertise beyond tactics and flying? What is Richard's degree in?

Continuum (TV)

I think Kiera and Alec should get together. Yes there's an age difference, but there is also a deep and interesting relationship. They've seen and experienced the best and worst of each other. I could see this happening in season 1 or 2 anytime before he meets Emily. I could see it happening between the Alec who lived through losing Emily in season 3 or the one who became a CEO. I can see it happening after Emily's departure and Brad's betrayal in season 4. I just want them together and content.

Now that the finale has aired, what if Kiera chooses to stay rather than return? It would have been the safer option.
