Sound of Music
Dec. 10th, 2013 03:02 pmI didn't see the Carrie Underwood "Sound of Music," and, since my first reaction to hearing of a death is laughter/sarcasm (seriously, it's a nervous reaction that I suppress strenuously -- and then the gut blow of loss hits me), my first uncensored thought upon reading that Eleanor Parker had died was "she needed a grave to roll over in." *sigh* (I hate my brain sometimes.)
The Guardian has informed me that the production was a hit. NBC is looking to do more. My suggestions (which I put in the comments):
Actually, there are several Broadway musicals that were either never made into films/tv presentations or whose films aren't well known. I'd like to see Gershwin's "Of Thee I Sing" as a July 4th presentation. "Finian's Rainbow" could be done for Martin Luther King weekend with a re-showing on Saint Patrick's Day. "Pajama Game" would be perfect for Labor Day. A little forethought and NBC could do this for years.
Any other suggestions?

Date: 2013-12-11 04:31 am (UTC)I do hope NBC realizes that there is a market in Broadway musicals. The press when they cast someone (please, please do something smart like 'Smash' when they actually recruited Broadway talent even if the show itself was weak). The audience that will watch because of the BIG NAME STAR they attach to it. The small audience who will watch, patiently and hopefully, as their fave musical finally gets national recognition. The few who will discover Broadway by accident via this vehicle....
