This is Yvette Alexander. She was one of the 41 arrested a month ago, and one of the six Councilmembers to do so.

Councilwoman Bowser spoke, too, and I liked what she said. She was also among the 41 arrested in the first protest.

I'll listen to these thoroughly later on, but from the minute or so I saw, they spoke very eloquently. The whole thing is outrageous and I really hope the rest of the US get behind you to amend the constitution.

I find it very disturbing that none of this was covered in the basic 'news of the nation' that I hear on the radio in the car.

We aren't taken seriously as an issue. The most common comment I read at The Washington Post is that we don't deserve to govern ourselves because we choose our mayors poorly, but frankly I can think of a few other famous mayors from other cities (Boston, Chicago, New York, and New Orleans among them) who were everything from screw-ups to outright villains and no one said "Let Congress rule the city since they obviously can't pick well."

I'll settle for the Supreme Court telling Congress that it can't make a law encumbering our own tax dollars. I'd like statehood, but for right now, even baby steps would be appreciated.
