The House, etc.
Aug. 20th, 2024 10:36 pmThe bank which had originally approved our mortgage, provided Sis paid off all her debts -- and Mom's too, has been, in British parlance, playing silly buggers with us, requiring more and different documents every day. Sis had asked for them to provide a list of EVERYTHING they would need by July 25th so that she could enjoy her cruise in peace. It didn't happen. Moreover, the closing, which was supposed to take place on August 13th still hasn't happened. The stress and anxiety is nearly overwhelming.
I've started coughing again and see my doctor tomorrow. I hope it's just something mild that I picked up on the plane home and not bronchitis again. I can't hear myself wheeze, so fingers crossed.
Most importantly, we found out this evening that our cousin Jane died today. She's technically a first cousin once removed. She's the baby of that generation of cousins, closer in age to me and Sis than to Mom. Sis had a very close friendship with Jane. For over a decade they'd meet up in Vegas once a year for a girls' weekend. I came along twice and enjoyed being part of their fun. Six years ago, Jane was diagnosed with, I think, lung cancer. She'd never smoked, so I may be wrong about the type. Whatever type it was, it was aggressive, but chemo and radiation got her into remission.
About 18 months ago, it came back. Jane had one round of chemo which didn't work as well as the doctors had hoped. It made her tired and sick. She chose at that point to move 1500 miles away to be near one of her sons and his kids. She went into hospice care ten months ago. Thanks to the care and, I think, the joy of being near her grandkids, she survived longer than anyone expected. Like Mom, she went out on her own terms.
Her sister emailed us. The age difference was over a decade. I can't imagine surviving my baby sister. My heart breaks for her.
