The Weather and Mentoring
Sep. 30th, 2010 10:52 pmOne of the seventh graders has gone from being annoying to being cool. She's not in my group, but her mentor was late this evening so she ended up with me. Her current favorite book is Farenheit 451 and her mother recently bought her Equal Rites. When she saw the Pratchett I was re-reading, we had a whole conversation about it. She's bringing me a book to read next week, and I'm lending her Wee Free Men.
National Airport reported that we broke the local record for rainfall in a single day. Now, I remember Tropical Storm Agnes. I can still taste the sour chocolate milk and Rice Krispies that I had for breakfast before they got food to our summer camp by boat. There were pictures in The Washington Post of the Potomac reaching the balcony at the Kennedy Center. That balcony is over a highway. We had more rain than that storm managed in any one day. And, like Agnes, Nicole is not leaving. They're talking about all day tomorrow and possibly into Saturday. That's a little scary.
Must avoid Rice Krispies.
