Perfumes

I love scent. Good scents are exciting. In spite of this, I've never worn perfume all that much. My sister has a reaction to certain scents, so I stopped trying to wear it when I was in my teens. The irony is, my sister does wear perfume and the one time I asked her to stop because what she wore bothered me, she refused. Oddly enough, Mom stepped in on that one. She pointed out Sis had deprived me of scents and since we were sharing an apartment it was unfair. Instead, I took her perfume shopping. While I didn't like the one she settled on, it never bothered me. All was cool.

Later, I had housemates many of whom had an interesting array of allergies. I stopped using scented laundry detergent and bought unscented dish washing liquid.

So one of the great things about living alone has been rediscovering scent. I use incense occasionally in the house, as long as it doesn't smell religious. And I'm picking my good for the environment cleaners by their scents as well as their promise for a better world.

I've also discovered The Perfumed Court. I started trying fragrances with them last year. 1 ml is not very much, but it lets a person make an informed decision about whether a scent is pleasant on the skin and whether it's nice in all weathers. For instance, I've fallen in love with Poivre by Caron, but I would never wear it in the summer because it's just too heavy.

This has been a little bit of fun for me.
