Carrots and sticks
Dec. 10th, 2008 07:04 pmI've been unemployed before. I'm bad at it. It's too easy for me to drift into bad habits.
So here's my public declaration of what I'm doing.
My minimum number of applications per day is three. Thanks to last week's bronchitis (which I'm not completely over), I haven't quite managed this. But my final official day was last Thursday. I've managed 9 applications since then.
On days when I'm not tutoring, I need to find reasons to leave the house so I will get enough exercise. To that end, I'm trying to find every branch of the Smithsonian and any other free exhibitions or concerts and attend at least two a week. This is a huge carrot for me. I get to feed my soul with art as a reward for slogging through the processes of online application.
I'm volunteering as an extra mentor on the nights I don't usually tutor in order to have something to do. If I feel useful in some way, things just seem to go better for me.
I'm open to suggestions.
