Alcoholism
Jan. 10th, 2008 11:14 amCan someone point me to a reputable site -- preferably not affiliated with AA -- that could give me information about a) women as alcoholics and/or b) people over 70 as alcoholics?
My week with the family wasn't bad, although I have noticed certain tensions have crept back into my body. One thing I noticed was that Mom seems worse about drinking.
It's not that she's drinking more that I noticed. When at home she could be, as the wine bottle is next to her place, and I might not have seen her refill. At restaurants, though, she's sticking to two glasses of wine -- they're big glasses, mind you. Her reactions seem worse to me, though.
Mom's never slurred a word. But the distraction from the present conversation, the lashing out at others for 'not including' her, and the angry personality shifts all seem to be coming on much faster than they used to. It could be that having been away from it for four months, I'm noticing things more. That's why I want to do a little research.
I would like to ask why the US doesn't have a standard measure for wine. In Germany, it's marked on the glasses at weinstuben. That's always made sense to me. For one thing, if you're following a calorie restricted diet, it allows you to calculate correctly.
I'd say most of the restaurants in L.A. have glasses over 6 oz. This might account for some of the difference as I think the glasses she uses at home are 6 oz.
