Brokeback Mountain
Nov. 2nd, 2005 08:21 pmOne of the perks of having a sister in the business are free screenings to movies that are Oscar bait. In this case, I got to see Brokeback Mountain before its official release.
I won't spoil. It's beautifully filmed, marvelously acted, and slowly paced. I think that Ledger may be nominated for this performance. I suspect Gyllenhaal will be nominated too, but probably for one of his other performances. This isn't because his performance isn't good, but because Ledger's is extremely strong, and if the studio's smart they'll back Gyllenhaal for supporting actor in this.
The images are haunting, and the tone is sad. I've been having flashbacks to particular moments all day. It stayed with me. When it comes out, go see it.
