1. [livejournal.com profile] eanja sent me the coolest gifts ever! I now have a ring watch with different colors to change the face when I need to and a pair of very spiffy watch hand earrings. I'm all a-squee.

2. Saw (500) Days of Summer with some friends today. I really liked the movie. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is terrific, and I really enjoyed seeing Matthew Gray Gubler play someone other than Reid.

3. One of the friends I saw the movie with told me something that makes me proud. Back in March, I think, I was helping out with a sustainable seafood event at the Natural History Museum. One of the things I brought up was that the local farmer's markets (which include some fishmongers) didn't, as far as I knew, accept food stamps. It turns out a couple accept WIC coupons, and one did take food stamps. But based on discussions I had at this event, the two newest farmer's markets DO take food stamps and the effort is being made to guarantee all of them will next year. I helped.

I was only 3 months late for your birthday...

Re the food stamps thing- way to go!! The farmers market that just opened opposite Ashmont takes food stamps and also doubles them up to $10, which is very nice.

I'm really chuffed about the food stamps thing. Now, I'll have to see if I can tell them about what Ashmont does.

Late doesn't matter. Especially when the gifts are so cool! *G*

I'm a bit excited at the moment because I've found a CSA run in part out of a local homeless women's shelter, that if you are in Dorchester, is only $200 for a full share ($550 if you live further out). If this is still the offer next summer, and I can find someone to go in w/ me (they don't do half-shares, so I'd need 2 or preferably 3 people, really) I'd really like to do that- I very much like the idea of CSA's, but between the cost and the difficulty in pickup/distribution with most of them being further north, and the ongoing too much food issue, it's never really seemed like a good idea. But this is cheap and local now that I'm not out in the suburbs.

And yes, I know I don't need to worry about this for until next year, and who knows what will happen to their rates.
