The man is an idiot.

That's not what I'm writing about. DC's City Paper has a new edition out. They've done their research on Councilman Barry and his latest scandal -- paying his mistress with a city contract.

Their headline?
"You Put Me Out in Denver
'Cause I Wouldn't Suck Your Dick."

There's some controversy. Personally, I think City Paper should not have used the headline.

The biggest problem about the paper is that it's free, and the headline will be visible for a week.

However, what's worse is that Ward 8 keeps re-electing this man. He's bad for my city.

I actually read those transcribed clips. Man, I have damned little idea what actually was going on there, what with the fragments not making a story. As for the headline, probably a good one for this bizarre business.

What is it folks like well enough about this guy to keep putting in one office or another?

He was actually a good politician back when DC was fighting for Home Rule. And a couple of commentors mentioned they voted for him because he has a reputation for getting things done for "the little guy."

Barry represents one of the poorest parts of DC -- Anacostia. Having been in the area recently, I can't say I see much that he's done for it cosmetically. But if he's helping get food stamps to the people who need them, that could be part of his appeal.

Damn. Here I thought Seattle's The Stranger stretched headlines a bit, but they have nothing on City Paper.

And yeah, Marion Barry is an idiot.

Yeah. He's been arrested for stalking, but the charges were dropped.

He definitely paid her out of the city payroll, though.
