It's already ridiculous.

On Monday of last week, I attended a symposium on tropical rainforests and noticed that the Mall was being turned into a porta-potty farm.

Today, I ventured out for my Sunday walk and observed how much more preparation has gone up in seven days. There's hurricane fencing everywhere. Most of the barriers are incomplete so people can cross streets, but it's already turned the Mall into a maze. Many of the tourists are not very bright rats.

In addition, I've seen motorcades, there's a bigger than usual helicopter presence, and some odd signs for Metro stations that will probably only make sense on the day.

The Museum of the American Indian had a line at the cafeteria, for the first time since I've visited. I overheard reports that Air and Space was so crowded that it was virtually impossible to turn around. The National Gallery was virtually empty.

I am so taking my scholars to the National Gallery.

I was thinking about you earlier today as I was watching the Lincoln concert and wondering how the hell you're going to get out and do your usual routine. Answer: Not till Wednesday. *g*

Yesterday, I went to a friend's house in Bethesda. I hadn't thought about the metro ride back. It was scary.

Today, I'm IN!

Quite wise. *gg* If one can be inside and avoid freezing for hours and hours, that's the wise way to go. :)
