There aren't many people who can point to their lives and say, "I made the world a better place, not just for me, but for an entire country." Helen Suzman, who died today, did.

My big boss at Boston University was Peter Berger who was asked to consult on the South African constitution. I met Helen Suzman when I served her tea in his office. I still consider it one of the great moments of my life.

She was a tiny little thing, soft spoken, but her figurative voice resounded.
