Los Angeles is surreal
Everyone's complaining about the chill. It's 68 degrees today.
We had a butterfly warning as part of our traffic report a couple of days ago.
In St. Louis, I saw my first and last daffodils in bloom. There were some early apple blossoms and the spice bush was in bloom in Oklahoma. Between Tulsa and Barstow, there were no flowers in bloom -- but lots of snow patches and roadkill.
In L.A., the lemon tree in my sister's backyard is in full fruit and full flower. By the way, I like the smell of lemon blossom more than orange blossom. I've put up four jars of preserved lemons (2 salt, 2 sugar).
The iris are past their prime and the roses are in full bloom. I also got the tail end of the jasmine, and the bougainvillea seems to be aflame more than abloom.
I've seen a hummingbird at rest.
The crows seem to be about the size of ravens. I'm scared to see what the ravens look like.
Flower shops are advertising "Lilac season," but the only ones I've seen are in their arrangements.
The ivy at the house next door is simple Virginia Creeper -- except that the individual new growth leaves are bigger than my hand.
I've managed to do my yoga outdoors in full sunlight at 7:00 a.m. every day.
Dark lands quickly and palm trees look stunningly beautiful in silhouette.
I've seen dates on a palm tree and olives on an olive tree. Neither looks like they do in the stores.

I truly couldn't believe what I was seeing. I had to ask for confirmation. They're so tiny.

OK, LA isn't all bad.

But, no, LA isn't all bad.

Mmmmm..... lemons! Unsprayed with pesticides, too. I grated a bunch of LA lemon peels, then froze the gratings, and squoze the juice and froze that, too, in little baggies in 1/4 cup amounts. Yum.
I'm thinking about you. Hope things improve for you.
