RIP: Paco de Lucia

In the mid-1980s, Carlos Saura made several flamenco films with choreographer/dancer Antonio Gades. My favorite was Carmen and at least part of the enjoyment was hearing Paco de Lucia on guitar. His primary style was flamenco, and he was a master of the form, but he also worked with jazz artists and taught himself (he never learned to read music) several of Falla's most difficult classical pieces.

I'm shattered that we lost him.

I am so sad to hear this. I think I wore out two copies of "Friday Night in SF".

There was something so visceral and beautiful about his playing, no matter the style he was working in. I was truly shocked to see his obituary.
