Sick again

At least this time it's different. Sinus pain and a low-grade fever. I only got about four hours of sleep last night.

LATimes had an opinion piece on Why We Shouldn't try to go to Mars. My comment was:

This is our destiny. We don't know what we'll get out of it until we get there. Robert Heinlein pointed out that our discoveries during the moon expeditions weren't from the moon itself, but from the endeavor of getting there. We need the large dream to get the largest benefits from the human imagination.

ETA: People are objecting to a black guy (Samuel L. Jackson) playing Nick Fury because the original was white. It's Samuel MF Jackson!

Shit! {{{{{{{{{ hugs you }}}}}}}}}}} Damn immune system. :(

Why we *shouldn't* go? FCOL. Bunch of weenies.

Sam's gonna play Nick Fury? Awesomeness! :)

Yeah, he had a tag at the end of the credits for Iron Man.

Damned immune system is right. {{{hugs}}}

Oh noes!!!! Feel better.

I've always thought that space exploration was imperative. If just for the sense of adventure and discovery. There is so much scientific knowledge learned just from the planning stage. It would be counter-productive to give up the dream. And it's a combination of both scientific knowlege and human imagination that is fueled by the quest.

Um... I haven't had much sleep either, so I'm not entirely sure I'm making sense.

And Samuel MF Jackson can play whatever the F he wants. I mean, really! It's Samuel MF Jackson!

Take care of yourself!

I'm doing better than I was yesterday, although the fever keeps playing up. I'm hoping to sleep well enough tonight to go to work tomorrow.

Yes. Science needs goals to shape it and the imagination needs food for inspiration. Mars is a planet that supplies both.

Get well soon-- let the surge of energy brought on by the rage provoked by the idiots objecting to Sam MF Jackson propel you into better health!!!

I think it's working. *G*

Ow :o( Feel better soon. It's one thing after another isn't it? Hope this is it for a good long while.

As for going to Mars, it's in the human psyche to explore, whether it's on this planet or on others. We're far too inquisitive for our own good sometimes, but it's the only way we've managed to evolve. Surely there must be a way to find the funds and resources to save this planet and go to others.

Silly me. Where there's a political will, there's always a way.

[identity profile] fabrisse.livejournal.com 2010-04-27 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope the political will remains -- for both saving this one and exploring the others.

Oh, and although I'm not hugely keen on SMFJ, (and I can't put my finger on why) I can't wait for Iron Man 2.

RDJ. That'll do me. :o)

Samuel Jackson isn't my favorite actor either, but I think there are certain roles, like Nick Fury (from my limited understanding), where his propensity for being slightly over the top/seventies' pimp is just a perfect mesh. Like I can't imagine his role in "Pulp Fiction" played by anyone else, but I can see other people in the Travolta role.

Iron Man 2 should rock. Except for Gwyneth Paltrow *eyeroll* It's not that I haven't liked her in certain roles, but I feel like Pepper Pots should be strong and she just plays her too weakly.
