A puzzle

I'm fairly certain I just (9:44 pm EDT) heard two shots fired in quick succession. They were out of doors, probably coming from somewhere on Delaware and/or Third Street, but it could also be the parking lot of my building in that direction.

How do I report this to the police? I live in a building with over 300 units. There are forty or fifty townhouses around here. The shots could have come from more than half of them as long as whoever fired them was outside.

Call and report that you believe that you heard shots fired but that under the circumstances you cannot tell where the shots came from. Explain the situation. It's better to call than not to, I think. Especially if something really did happen. It's then police's determination as to how to handle the situation.

Good luck!

I'll go to the police station tonight.

I guess I'm a bit late and you've gone ahead and spoken to the police, but I would tell have no hesitation in telling them exactly what you told us. If they can't make use of it, they can't but you've done all you can. If nothing else, who knows? Possibly knowing the exact time of the shots may be of some help.

I hope so.

Jesus. Yes, in a large apt area, it's difficult. I'd remember the time and watch the news for any crimes at that time and area that the police may need info on.
