RIP Patrick McGoohan

Episodes of The Prisoner are available for streaming at AMC.

The Obituary is at the LA Times.

While I came to The Prisoner in my late twenties, it was really seminal in how I formed my ideas of individual rights versus the duty the individual holds to society at large and specifically to his government.

In these days of Abu Ghraib and "security concerns," the phrase "I am not a number; I am a free man," resonates more clearly than ever.

Awww, how sad- I was only wondering how he was doing the other week when they were running one of the Columbo episodes he was in. I always liked him - he definitely always brought star quality to anything he was in and made an excellent baddie. Fantastic as the warden in 'Escape From Alcatraz' for instance. Also, the theme tune to 'Danger Man' is one of the all time greats

Definitely an original and definitely charismatic.

I liked his first Columbo episode. I don't know if I saw the later ones.

I've always heard of this show, but never watched it.

Shame about the actor though.

Go over to the AMC website and watch it. It's mind bending.

McGoohan wrote and/or directed several of the episodes, many under pseudonyms.

He got the Beatles to give him permission to use one of their songs in the final episode.
