Glasses are very weird and very personal. One of the things that I think they got right on Stargate is that Daniel's glasses are large enough for him to look around. The narrow ones in 2010 are completely unbelievable to me for someone who's worn glasses all his life and needs them for everything.

As far as Curves goes -- I didn't expect to like it. Since it's a franchise, each one has a different vibe to it, but the workout itself is standardized. It's a simple circuit of resistance machines with cool down squares between them. Most of the women at mine are older (like in their 70s) or seriously overweight. The two Orthodox Jewish women are the only real exceptions.

What I like is that they check target heart rates at least once a circuit. They don't expect you to work at anything other than your own pace. With my tachycardia, that's a real relief.

Too many of the aerobics classes I tried kept me trying to keep up. Sometimes it was the teacher, usually it was just the ambiance. At Curves they don't care if you just step-touch your feet together on the cool down squares or can only do one rep on a machine. For the first week I could only do two circuits instead of three. There are a couple of machines that I can only do a beginners level of reps on while most of them I'm in the intermediate range with. The best thing is that from arrival to departure I'm only there for 40 minutes -- three circuits and a cool down.

I'd say talk to the proprietor and at least one other person who works at your local Curves and see if they're congenial.
