To my English Heritage Peeps...

I love the Mrs. Crocombe videos put out by English Heritage on YouTube. As someone who likes redacting historic recipes -- even if my period tends to be a bit older (late 15th to early 17th century mostly) -- watching Mrs. Crocombe prepare her dishes is a sheer delight.

Her main kitchen is at Audley End House (Lord and Lady Braybrooke have a London house as well although we've yet to see it).

This article in The Guardian is about a painting owned by Audley End House and its recent restoration. My first thought was "more documentation of cauliflower in period." My second is that the human subject has a passing resemblance to Mrs. Crocombe.

Go read.

for those who are interested in the videos, allow me to suggest her recipe for Pigeon Pie.
