Paul Newman
The first film I ever saw him in was The Sting.
Redford never really appealed to me. Newman was a subtler actor, always comfortable in his own skin.
Some of his younger performances don't grab me, but virtually everything I saw him in that was made after The Sting held me tight for the length of the film. Even in The Verdict, where I was taking apart the judge for not declaring a mistrial, Newman's performance was so nuanced I wanted to root for him.

Searches google. OMG! How sad! I knew he had been sick. And yes, re: the Sting and his acting.
Boy there's been a lot of celebrity deaths this year of celebrities I pay attention to. :-(
